WHEN TO VISIT

We're open between May and September. Our site is beautifully wild and when camping here you really do immerse yourself in nature and changes in the seasons become even more apparent.

SPRING
MAY & JUNE

We think the most amazing season at the camp. The site wakes after winter and BURSTS into life.
Birds race around collecting insects for their young, tucked away securely in nests. The dawn chorus is deafening and the air is buzzing with insects. Plants surge upwards, with the appearance of orchids and other rare species.

AUTUMN
(September/ October)

The hustle and bustle of the summer subsides and the site slows down. Fungi appear, leaves change colour and drop, red deer bellow and the calls of hundreds can be heard.
We offer camping until mid-September and after this, you can stay on Hilda the bus with her cosy woodburner (you'll have the whole site to yourself, bliss!)

SUMMER
(July/ August)

A wonderful season for camping: long balmy evenings, beautiful sunsets and quality time spent with the family. Butterflies flit around our wildflower meadows and dragonflies and bats take shifts to patrol around our restored ponds. Our reintroduced hedgehogs are often spotted snuffling around tents after dark and young owlets become more independent and can often be seen around camp.

WINTER
(November/ December)

Over these colder months only Hilda the bus is available and you have the whole site to yourselves.
Migrant birds are abundant, with fieldfare and redwing feeding on the berries. Woodcock sit silently on the ground and burst into flight only when almost stepped upon.
Peace and quiet, the cosy woodburner and a glass of wine, perfect!
